I knew I would eventually lift the bees to a separate layer in the coloring stages, but I didn't want to draw them on a separate sheet of paper, so some of them are not in their final position.
I also tried to distort and simplify his anatomy to really give a sense of movement.

really cool forced perspective layout! way to go brian!
thanks man, I'd like to experiment with more distortion and forced perspective if subsequent cover designs for this series allow it. It's an awful lot of fun to play with that.
i've seen once some put zig-zags on the linework to make it look shaky
